Cell phones, laptops needed for Ukrainian refugees in New West

Through the Digital Inclusion Project’s relationship with ISSofBC, we received a great number of Ukrainian refugees requesting cell phones and laptops to keep in touch with loved ones back home, seek skill-training programs, and look for employment. As we know, rent in New West is incredibly high already and continues to grow, so budgets are tight and many cannot afford to buy brand-new devices. With the holidays around the corner, we want to alleviate as much financial burden on those affected by the crisis in Ukraine as possible. We have already assisted 14 Ukrainian families in New West so far, and we hope to support even more before the year ends. Thank you to the New West Anchor for sharing our efforts to support these families!

As part of Fraud Prevention Month, the Electronics Recycling Association (ERA) and the New Westminster Police Department partnered up to offer an electronics recycling event at city hall, where the local community could dispose of unwanted electronics, while also ensuring personal information was protected. The ERA gifted Purpose Society’s Digital Inclusion Project with a generous 28 laptops, which will go to those experiencing homelessness and other vulnerable populations within the community.
